My sweet mama friend Julia has had her stroller/bike trailer stolen, along with her keys, childrens helmets, water bottles and toys, you can read about it here.
By helping her out this will be your chance to bid to win a Sewfunky sling, a waldorf doll, or some sweet summer dresses for the amazing price of $2 per ticket.

I really want to be able to help her out with covering the costs of replacing this much needed item so I am offering a $100 gift certificate from my website for instock items up for raffle this week. The cost per entry is $2 per ticket payable through paypal to tanja@sewfunky.ca . I will email each raffle ticket purchaser to confirm I have received your name for the draw. All proceeds from the raffle will go to Julia and family towards a new bike trailer/stroller.
The raffle will run until Friday, May 23rd at noon at which time I will print out all the ticket names and have one of my kids draw it from a hat. I will announce the winner on my blog and contact the winner by email.
Thank you so much! Together we can make a difference!

Isn’t she sweet? She has silk/wool Noro Blossom yarn for hair. She is made with organic cotton skin and local wool for stuffing. She has become one of my favourites by far!
Life has been busy, sewing, gardening and spring cleaning. We had a lovely time at the spring fair at our local waldorf school. It is such a beautiful place and it was so nice to see so many families we know. The kids had so much fun doing different crafts, seeing a play and having great food. The artists had so many beautiful things in the craft market.
I finally have instructions up for the PandaWrap on the website thanks to my gorgeous friend Kasia and her chubby little man

I have received so many lovely photos from customers lately and it makes me so happy to see your beautiful babies happy in their sling!

Custom order a special spring dress for you little one with a matching sun bonnet.

Well i hope this really means I can put away all the mittens, hats, scarves and snowsuits of six people for good.. what spring does mean is that I get to follow my 4 year old around the block 27 times a day on her tricycle, who’s to argue, it’s been a long winter!
I have been working very hard lately making slings for all those spring babies :) This weekend is the Stitch ‘n’ Kitsch show in Waterloo and I will have three mermaids and three Waldorf dolls, bags, spring dresses & bonnets and of course slings ;) This also means I will not be sleeping all week as I have been swamped with work lately. So if you see me there, I will be the girl with the big bags under her eyes drinking a peppermint mocha.
Here are some newer slings available on the website.. I had to use my sad old mannequin for lack of my own baby for modelling..haha You can see all of the new stuff here :

it’s what everyone is wondering.. will the snow ever be gone?
Well we had a good week of the stomach flu at our house.. thank goodness I didn’t get it! But it was a long week of caring for sick children and a sick husband. I didn’t get a lot of sewing done as I had to sit within arms reach of currently puking child, but I did get a lot of late night knitting done. I am finally done those soaker pants! Well I would more call them capris.. I was getting a short attention span..haha
In Sewfunky news, I shipped off our first order to a new retailer in the Netherlands, she has many great carriers and breastfeeding gear and I’m so happy to have my slings being sold in Europe to a retailer who feels so strongly about natural parenting.

World Mother’s Bag made with soft brown corduroy and lined with hemp!

A sweet Waldorf mermaid with Noro Wool for her hair and top. She has a cotton velveteen tail and local wool stuffing!
More pictures to come soon of new stuff!

My dad knows how much I love babywearing, on his travels he tries to capture images to bring back to me. This one is from his trip to Mexico this past December, isn’t it lovely?

The Rebozo (stole-like mexican garment)
By Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo - October 2006.
Part of the indigenous women’s attire, the rebozo is worn in many ways at different times in a Mexican woman’s life. In Puerto Vallarta it is even celebrated with an annual gala evening.
The rebozo is a piece of fabric 7ft by 2ft, though dimensions vary from region to region. This typical garment has been an inseparable companion of Mexican women for many centuries.
Rebozos are made from wool or cotton. They are colored with dyes made from local plants, insects and marine molluscs. Rebozos take their form and colors from the local resources and climate.
A connoisseur can tell the origin of any rebozo by its material, its design and its colors.
Apart from protecting a woman from the cold and the sun, the rebozo is the ideal garment used by a mother to keep her child by her side at all times. By tying her rebozo it becomes a sling, and her hands are free to wash, cook and go about her daily routine and duties. The rebozo gives the mother flexibility to breast-feed, talk and sing to her baby, or pray while carrying her child at her waist, on her back, on her shoulders, or wherever her motherly love’s creativity will allow.
Even before birth the rebozo can be of great help; women know how to use the rebozo to position the baby and facilitate birth in complicated cases.
In Mexico the high veneration rendered to a mother is not gratuitous. There are strong ties like the rebozo that greatly strengthen the weave that traditionally unites Mexican families.
