I have been working on this super sweet Waldorf Inspired Forest Pixie this week.

She is a gift from a Mama to welcome her first daughter due this month, so exciting!

She has golden skin, green eyes and freckles.  Her hair is a blend of wool/silk in beautiful colours and textures.  She is wearing a calico pinafore and hemp bloomers with hand knit booties.

Tender Loving Corner  is a breast pump rental depot and retail store located right in the Maternal Child Unit of Oakville Hospital. The store offers specialty products to enhance the nurturing experience for mom and baby such as electric/manual breast pumps, nursing pillows, milk collection/storage systems, breast pads, nipple creams, educational books and stylish maternity undergarments.  They also now carry Sewfunky Slings and the lovely team of Lactation Consultants are happy to show you how to wear your new baby!

She has beautiful Fair Trade Hand Spun hair in 100% wool with golden skin and blue eyes.  She’s wearing a handknit wool dress and booties made with hand-dyed wool with sweet sage green hemp pants.  She is carrying her matching pixie baby in a Sewfunky PandaWrap made with silky soft bamboo jersey.

So many holiday dolls on my to-do list once fall arrives then it’s time to cozy up on the couch with my hand work basket in the evening!

It’s been about a year that we’ve been eating gluten free and learning to bake all over again has been tricky at times.  This cake is definitely a keeper, when I make it, it disappears almost instantly.  I love that it’s very simple to put together and uses ingredients I always have.
Delicious Gluten Free Chocolate Cake

1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 (19 ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
4 eggs
3/4 cup organic cane sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Grease and dust (with rice flour) a 9 inch cake pan.
Place the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl.

Cook in the microwave (or double broiler) for about 2 minutes, stirring every 20 seconds after the first minute, until chocolate is melted and smooth. If you have a powerful microwave, reduce the power to 50 percent.

Combine the beans and eggs in the bowl of a food processor. Process until smooth. Add the sugar and the baking powder, and pulse to blend. Pour in the melted chocolate and blend until smooth, scraping down the corners to make sure chocolate is completely mixed.

Transfer the batter to the prepared cake pan.

Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 to 15 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Dust with confectioners’ sugar just before serving.

Our family had a great time at the Hillside Festival at Guelph Lake in July.  It’s always nice to see old friends and meet new ones and talk to customers in person and see their sweet babies!  It was super hot that weekend and we ate a lot of organic ice cream – YUM 

I made lots of lovely dresses and bonnets for the little girls.  Plus I also made a bunch of wrap skirts, halter tops and dresses for women.  It was really nice to get back into clothing making and get creative.

I also got to see a tiny bit of Shad perform but it was next to impossible to even get into the tent because it was packed!

Sewfunky Sun Bonnet

I have been making these Sun Bonnets for 18 years now, a classic ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Style but with modern retro prints.  They really are the perfect hat, lots of sun protection, stay on well and super cute!
