Time sure does go by fast these days! It has been such a busy fall for me and I’m so looking forward to the holidays when I can catch up on some sleep 😉
Some great new retailers have been added to our list for Sewfunky Slings. I am very excited to be working with them.
Mataea Mercantile is located in Duncan, British Columbia and has so much to offer. It is owned by two local midwives and offers health care, massage, yoga classes, midwifery care and an amazing natural parenting boutique. They sell birth kits, cloth diapers, organic clothing, nursing wear and now Sewfunky Slings!
Huckleberry Baby Shop is located in Nanaimo BC and they are proud to offer gentle choice for eco-friendly families. Cristi is an experienced Mama who is happy to teach you all about cloth diapering and babywearing and they also now carry our slings and Pandawraps!
Babe and Bug is an online shop offering natural goodies for Mamas and their little ones. They are happy to answer any questions you might have and are located in Oakville, Ontario.
Tender Loving Corner is a breast pump rental depot and retail store located right in the Maternal Child Unit of Oakville Hospital. The store offers specialty products to enhance the nurturing experience for mom and baby such as electric/manual breast pumps, nursing pillows, milk collection/storage systems, breast pads, nipple creams, educational books and stylish maternity undergarments. They also now carry Sewfunky Slings and the lovely team of Lactation Consultants are happy to show you how to wear your new baby!
It’s very exciting to grow some more! If you are a natural parenting boutique and are looking for a Canadian made Organic Baby Sling please email me for more information!

This is a sweet Waldorf Pixie Doll I finished this week!
She has beautiful Fair Trade Hand Spun hair in 100% wool with golden skin and blue eyes. She’s wearing a handknit wool dress and booties made with hand-dyed wool with sweet sage green hemp pants. She is carrying her matching pixie baby in a Sewfunky PandaWrap made with silky soft bamboo jersey.
So many holiday dolls on my to-do list once fall arrives then it’s time to cozy up on the couch with my hand work basket in the evening!

It’s been about a year that we’ve been eating gluten free and learning to bake all over again has been tricky at times. This cake is definitely a keeper, when I make it, it disappears almost instantly. I love that it’s very simple to put together and uses ingredients I always have.
Delicious Gluten Free Chocolate Cake
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 (19 ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
3/4 cup organic cane sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar for dusting
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Grease and dust (with rice flour) a 9 inch cake pan.
Place the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl.
Cook in the microwave (or double broiler) for about 2 minutes, stirring every 20 seconds after the first minute, until chocolate is melted and smooth. If you have a powerful microwave, reduce the power to 50 percent.
Combine the beans and eggs in the bowl of a food processor. Process until smooth. Add the sugar and the baking powder, and pulse to blend. Pour in the melted chocolate and blend until smooth, scraping down the corners to make sure chocolate is completely mixed.
Transfer the batter to the prepared cake pan.
Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 to 15 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Dust with confectioners’ sugar just before serving.

With all the mayhem of summer I haven’t had a chance to even think about posting! We have been so busy with so many different things its been hard to keep up.
Our family had a great time at the Hillside Festival at Guelph Lake in July. It’s always nice to see old friends and meet new ones and talk to customers in person and see their sweet babies! It was super hot that weekend and we ate a lot of organic ice cream – YUM
I made lots of lovely dresses and bonnets for the little girls. Plus I also made a bunch of wrap skirts, halter tops and dresses for women. It was really nice to get back into clothing making and get creative.
I feel so lucky to have caught a bit of this performance on Sunday night:
Seun Kuti and Egypt 80
It was amazing!
I also got to see a tiny bit of Shad perform but it was next to impossible to even get into the tent because it was packed!
I also snuck away from the booth and caught a bit of Ganga Giri :

It was a beautiful day to celebrate International Day of the Midwife. We were honoured today to walk with our midwives who attended our children’s births to raise awareness and show our commitment to safe motherhood for all women of the world.

I love when my customers send in pictures of their sweet babies, even more amazing when their Mamas are talented photographers. You can see more amazing work from GoldSpun Photography on her blog.
I have been making these Sun Bonnets for 18 years now, a classic ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Style but with modern retro prints. They really are the perfect hat, lots of sun protection, stay on well and super cute!

Since I was a very young child I have always looked up to David Suzuki with so much admiration. He has the amazing ability to inspire and teach in a way like no other. He is definitely what guided me on my path of environmental consciousness.
Recently we watched Force of Nature and I was again humbled to hear what his message was. Hearing his story, his reflections on his life, holding his grandchild close, all touched my heart and inspired me even more. We all have work to do.
Celebrate David Suzuki’s 75th Birthday on March 24th by Downloading Playlist for the Planet on Itunes.
The playlist features some of Canada’s most amazing musicians : Bruce Cockburn, Tara Grand, K-OS, Raffi, Lights, Danny Michel, Randy Bachman, and so many more.

Well it’s no secret I love chocolate or a good cookie for that matter. When i saw this recipe I had to try it, well a gluten free version! It was so good and our family of six ate it all up!
It was also easy and fast to make, a few minutes in the frying pan then 15 minutes in the oven. I substituted the white flour with brown rice flour and instead of fancy chocolate I just used semi sweet chocolate chips. The best part no messy cleanup, you mix and cook it in the skillet.
Yum! Thanks Sophistimom!
